It’s OK.

This should’ve been a video, but I’m taking a break from that. Also, you get to read this at your own pace, mixing it with the silence of your own thoughts. Or with some chillstep in the background. Your choice.
This is not a story. Nor an inspirational bit of advice. It’s simply a reminder that it’s ok.
It’s OK to feel tired.
It’s OK to quit.
It’s OK to not have a career.
It’s OK if you can’t cook.
It’s OK to not have the latest phone.
It’s OK to not drive the fastest car.
It’s OK to not live in the biggest house.
It’s OK if you can’t sing.
It’s OK to not be the smartest in the room.
It’s OK to have less than 6 salaries saved for retirement.
It’s OK to be fat.
It’s OK to just be yourself.
In a world blinded by the rat race we forget that its finish line is just death. So go live a little—it’s OK.
It’s really OK to phase out every now and then— it gives you the opportunity to recharge. Or to change your life entirely.
Then when you get back, you might—just might—have a healthier take on life.
It’s OK to feel tired. Take the time to rest and you’ll live longer. Nothing is *that* urgent.
It’s OK to quit. Very few things are worth pursuing in life. If you no longer feel excited or driven, just let go.
It’s OK to not have a career. Many, if not most people don’t. Take the time to learn something that you are going to enjoy doing.
It’s OK if you can’t cook. One can eventually learn to prepare a single, super-awesome dish. That’s going to be enough.
It’s OK to not have the latest phone. Stop chasing material goods. Chase the value they bring.
It’s OK to not drive the fastest car. Stop chasing material goods. Chase the freedom they give you.
It’s OK to not live in the biggest house. Stop chasing material goods. Chase the feeling of home they give.
It’s OK if you can’t sing. Any form of art is good soul food.
It’s OK to not be the smartest in the room. It’s actually recommended not to, as you might really learn something new. Be wary of the loudest in the room though.
It’s OK to have less than 6 salaries saved for. Instead of simply saving for retirement, imagine yourself in 30–40 years from now. What do you do, what pays for stuff? Start building that now.
It’s OK to be fat. You can let yourself go, but your future self will hate you for it. Your can call your body a temple, a machine, a money-maker, whatever. But the simple truth is that it’s just a lazy chauffeur for your brain. Take care of your driver and car and you’ll be just a little bit happier in life.
What I’m trying to say that it’s OK to be as you want to be and do what you want to do.
I often say that
we’re the sum of the poor choices we make.
And that’s ok too—because the secret to happiness is simple: to be content.
Own your choices. Live with them. Make being content the end-game and everything in life is going to be fine.
So go out there and live a little. It’s OK.
Usually this is the part where I insert some well-timed call to action or some witty closure. I don’t have any. If you found the above useful or know someone that might be uplifted by it, share this with them. Clapping is entirely optional. ❤
